Currently, I am working as an assistant professor at a university with a non-profit H1B visa. An industry company wants to hire me as a consultant. They want me to start ASAP. At this moment, I just filed my E1B petition, but 140 has not been approved yet. So how can I work for that company and get paid?
Option 1. File a concurrent H1B with the company. However, since it is already mid April, does it mean that I can only get the chance for the H1B lottery next year? If so, that would be too late.
Option 2. Let the company pay me through a funding. I am not sure how difficult it is. But I am sure that the university will take away at least 30% of the funding as indirect cost.
If there is any other option, please let me know. Thanks for your help!
