TN to marriage a US citizen

Hello can anyone help to figure out this paragraph. Im TN holder about to marry a us citizen im not sure if it is the best time to apply. If i send all the paperwork as I understand i get a work permit first and then the appointment for the green card? But what about this my TN ends in December thanks

Nonimmigrants generally do not accrue unlawful presence while the timely-filed, non-frivolous EOS/COS application is pending.
