Please read all the way through and bear with me on this one.
I'm a disabled 20 year old U.S citizen, living with a parent indefinitely. My best friend of about a decade is a 22 year old Canadian citizen, who has suffered an extremely neglectful, borderline abusive childhood. They do not have a highschool diploma, they have never been employed, and they have progressively mounting physical and mental health issues, and an extremely unstable, impoverished home life.
Since we were kids, our goal has been to bring them here to live with me and my family (they are on board) and get them out of their situation, and get them proper help and help them enter society, as they have been essentially kept captive by their guardian since becoming an adult. They intend to seek employment, if not also completing their education, once here and with people who will help guide and support them through the process.
What are my options as far as getting them here? What do they have to do? What can I do to help? I'm willing to do anything, including marriage, although this is same-sex, and i don't know how...lenient laws are regarding that. I intend to do everything fully legally - any illegal methods would just put more people at risk.
Thanks if you read all of that, and can offer any advice or knowledge.
