Hi All,
I am a third-year foreign student studying in the US. I would like to stay here after graduation but I don't know how to best achieve that. Here are my options, and I would like to know your thoughts as to which is the most realistic path:
- Get engaged/married to my boyfriend, who I have been dating for two years. He is a student and a US citizen, and I believe engagement/marriage to a US citizen is a pathway to a green card
- Try to get a job that will sponsor me with an H1-B visa. This is challenging because most companies that provide sponsorships are very competitive to get hired by
- Continue my studies into Graduate School. This is probably not an option for me.
If I were to take the marriage option, does anyone know when we would need to start filing the paperwork? Is that something that can wait until after graduation, or should we start while still in school? Also, I believe we need to provide proof of financial stability? As my boyfriend is a student without reliable income, could we have a parent vouch for us?
Thank you in advance, and apologies if this is not the right place to ask this question, I am new to Reddit.
