CR-1 visa to IR-1 visa difficult question!

I'm(u.s. citizen) married my wife(korean) received the cr-1 visa. We were planning to move back to the states at the beginning of this year. Unfortunately, covid happened and derailed our plans to go back. My wife's cr- 1 will expire in the next few months, and we haven't returned to the states for about 8 months.

Are we suppose to give up the cr-1 visa? Or can we keep it until we apply for the IR-1? The application would happen at the embassy in Korea. We do plan to move back after the whole Corona mess is over.
