I am a U.S. citizen, and my husband is Ethiopian. We are in the middle of the process to get him a CR1 visa. The only thing left is an interview at the U.S Embassy in Addis Ababa, but there is huge backlog at the embassy and they still aren’t open (since March). I’m pretty sure we still have a very long wait ahead of us before he can come here on the CR1.
I miss my husband. I can’t go visit him anymore because I used all my time off from work. Ethiopia is not part of the visa waiver program/ESTA, so they haven’t been issuing tourist visas besides emergency cases or renewals that qualify for an interview waiver.
Does anybody know another way to get him to the U.S, just for a visit? Can the interview requirement for a B1/B2 be waived because he is the spouse of a U.S citizen, or by any other means? Basically, if it requires an interview, he won’t be able to be scheduled for at least 6 months due to backlog. Are there any visas that don’t require interview, for an Ethiopian national?
Also - Ethiopia is not subject to any travel bans, and my husband is also not subject to travel bans because he is immediate family of a U.S citizen.
Any suggestions? This separation is killing us.
