My wife was denied entry to the USA from Mexico. I have worked in the USA for a year on TN status and we made the choice to have my wife join me. We are both Canadian.
We went to the El Paso port of entry (I work in New Mexico) and was instructed to go to the Mexico side by 2 border officers (on the US side), as they were clueless and said they couldn’t help us.
We crossed, and when we asked the officers coming back into the US - my wife was denied entry, and was not able to apply for TD status.
We had all the required documents. Their reasoning was “she is not essential”. I tried to contest by explaining she is accompanying me as a TN status holder as my dependent.
Our next plan is to visit the consulate to see if they can do anything. Otherwise, she is stuck in Mexico until she can get a negative swab and fly to Canada.
Should we try again tomorrow at the border? Not sure what the next move is if the consulate can’t help.
