Hi everyone! I'm an international student at a top 10 college in the United States. I realized that I want I want to be able to get permanent residence in America so I can live at ease without having the uncertainty of H1-b constantly bogging down my head. Upon further research, I realized that my background, in particular my "foreign state of chargeability" (as US immigration calls it) actually has had no backlog in the EB-2 visa (green card) category. The requirements of an EB-2 are: "you have a U.S. advanced degree or a foreign equivalent degree, or ... a U.S. baccalaureate degree or a foreign equivalent degree and letters from current or former employers showing that you have at least 5 years of progressive post-baccalaureate work experience in the specialty." It also says that the job needs to "require" an advanced degree to partake in.
I am thinking of majoring in Computer Science because I love technology and innovation and want to one day be able to start my own entrepreneurial ventures etc (which is easier if I actually get a green card). Do you think that pursuing a CS undergrad + CS concurrent masters (which enables me to get a masters degree along my bachelors in 4 years) will help me maintain this requirement? After graduating, can I then apply to a willing tech firm and ask them to sponsor me for this visa category instead of an H1-b work visa? I am also interested in your opinions as to which companies would actually help and meet the requirements mentioned in the EB-2 visa requirements above. Do you think this can actually work and push through?
I would really appreciate all of your input!
