Will try to keep this short but sweet (first time poster). Been trying in my free time this past year to see if my dad is eligible for Commonwealth status. I'm guessing no but didn't hear back from the UK Home Office Nationality Inquiries division, so I'm here to see if anyone has advice.
My dad was born in the late 1950's to an American father and a Jamaican mother (married) at RAF Burtonwood, at that time restored to Royal Air Force purposes (though my grandpa was stationed there on behalf of the American Air Force). My grandparents lived in England for about 5ish years, didn't own property but got married and had two of their kids there. Relocated to Texas in 1959/1960 and later on my grandma acquired US Citizenship while my grandpa was stationed in Illinois. Not sure that she 'renounced' her prior status but to my memory she never paid taxes on anything in the UK or Jamaica after her initial relocation to Texas.
I'm looking into this, again, because I've mostly been bored and my dad has never really investigated this himself. I'm doubtful that he's eligible but if he was it could be really cool (he's keen to research family history in Jamaica in the coming years). I know this forum is not a substitute for 'legal' counsel but I figured there may be individuals who have similar experience/questions. I've managed to confuse myself entirely too much trying to understand the British Nationality Act of 1981, British Commonwealth Law and Jamaican Nationality Law. Thank you for any/all advice!
