Hello r/immigration community! I'm an international student currently enrolled in an expensive private university. I'm in my 4th year of study and my visa expires soon. Due to unforeseen hardship in my family's financials, it was up to me to pay for my studies. Small town, illegal to work off-campus, and on campus employment of 20 hours a week on minimum wage life got me down to a point where I called quits. I haven't dropped out of my university yet and I still have about 2 semesters worth of credit short of graduating. I don't intend to go back to school this Fall and I wanted to know what would happen if I overstay in the U.S for about a year without status. What are the consequences for overstaying a year? What I really want to know is that will ICE find and knock on my door? Will I be able to return to the U.S i.e. will I get banned to enter the U.S? Also, what would happen if I try to leave the U.S? They don't do arrests at an airport for overstaying right?😅 I'm hoping to continue my studies in Canada. I need about a year of preparation to get to Canada due to my situation. I hope to transfer to a college in Canada and my last question is that will Canadian immigration care if I overstayed in the U.S? Thank you so much for everyone in advance for answering all my questions.
