So, my partner and me just applied for a K1 visa. I'm from Belgium and currently finishing my PhD. When I started living with my best friend last year, we decided to legally cohabitate, since this will result in a tax break for her, since my PhD income is seen as a grant and thus not regarded as actual income, making me a dependent of her.
Now I was wondering how the US (USCIS/US Embassy) is going to look at this? In Belgian law there is no issue since the cohabitation automatically expires if one of either parties get married. However, idk how other countries look at it, since the majority of people legally cohabiting are couples, and some people look at it as a precursor for marriage.
Is it fine, or should I dissolve the legal cohabitation asap to avoid issues with USCIS?
