What are some small cities to live in?

I plan on moving to the US but you guys are so large, l dont know where to start looking for a place to live. I grew up in a small country with small cities, and although l would like to break that mondane, boring pace, l dont want to move to a super busy city. I feel like New York would be too much for me, but l dont want to end up in a village either. What are some decent sized cities, that arent drowned with noise but still have some good places to be over the weekend. Also, it would be a bonus if that city was in non-conservative state.

A few questions: I filed my N400 naturalization on March 23, 2020. Nearly one year later on Feb 2021 they sent me a notice that they'll reuse my biometrics from my green card application, but they won't refund the biometric fee!
