…she was the first person her friend called before getting his phone seized and sent back by immigration?
—
Backstory: My girlfriend is a Thai immigrant who came here on a visa long since expired. Her employer, whom is also Thai, asked if she could pick up her son from the airport.
My girlfriend got a text from her boss’s son informing her that he had just landed. My girlfriend texted him back that she was on her way to pick him up.
Then he went silent. We didn’t here from him for almost 48 hours later. Turns out that after he landed immigration picked him up, seized his phone, questioned him, and then sent him back.
I actually made a post about it a while back, as we had no idea what had actually happened to him.
I’m thinking that they must have gone through his phone, saw that he immediately texted my girlfriend to pick him up, and then this caused them to “research” her.
I can’t seem to imagine a scenario where they didn’t look her up and find that she’s been living in America on an expired visa for quite some time. The real question is, do they care enough to do anything about it?
We live in San Francisco where ICE cannot legally operate. However, she wants to fly to Texas to attend her best friend’s wedding. However, I’m thinking this might not be a good idea as she may be “flagged” by immigration.
How do these things work? Is she flagged? Do you think that it’s safe for her to fly?
