I’m a born and raised US citizen. My parents applied for asylum from a foreign country due to threats to their life and violence in their country. Their asylum was denied in 1996.
They fraudulently changed their identity and reapplied for asylum which was eventually granted several years later. In 2006, a letter was received by them to show up to court, as they have found a correlation with their previous, true identity. They decided to not show up for the hearing and fled the USA out of fear.
15 years later, here I am trying to rectify their mistake and bring them back to the US. Is this even possible? I’ve read that the i601 waiver only applies if they have a parent or spouse who is a US citizen and can sponsor them. Not their child. I don’t know if it helps but i’m an Ivy League Grad student on his way to be a surgeon.
Please don’t discourage it if you’re not experienced with immigration.
Thoughts? Opinions? Thanks
